Background:

The female pelvis is an evolutionary compromise between bipedalism and childbirth.
Fetopelvic disproportion (FPD) arises from this compromise, risking obstructed labor.
Obstructed labor is a major cause of maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity.

To re-evaluate the evolutionary basis of FPD.
To integrate sociocultural and environmental factors into understanding FPD.
To shift from a Neo-Darwinist to an Extended Evolutionary Synthesis framework.
