  • To investigate the relationship between PVC symptom intensity and cardiac interoception.
  • To explore cardiac interoception using behavioral and neurophysiological measures.
  • To determine if interoception can predict PVC symptom severity.

Main Methods:

  • 34 participants with PVCs underwent interoception assessment.
  • Interoceptive accuracy (IA) was measured via mental tracking (MT) and heartbeat detection (HBD).
  • Cardiac interoception was assessed using heartbeat-evoked potentials (HEPs); symptom intensity was the primary outcome.

Main Results:

  • Higher interoceptive accuracy via mental tracking (IAMT) was observed in symptomatic PVC patients.
  • Both IAMT and heartbeat-evoked potentials (HEPs) correlated with symptom intensity.
  • A combined model of IA and HEPs demonstrated high predictive accuracy for symptom severity.

Conclusions:

  • A significant link exists between interoception and the severity of PVC symptoms.
  • Integrating behavioral and neurophysiological interoception measures improves symptom prediction.
  • These findings suggest novel, non-invasive strategies for managing PVCs by targeting interoception.
