Area of Science:

  • Medical Education
  • Digital Learning Tools
  • Pedagogical Innovation

Background:

  • Traditional project-based learning (PBL) in medical education faces challenges in information accessibility and collaboration.
  • The development of digital resources like cloud dictionaries offers potential solutions to enhance PBL.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate a novel teaching model integrating a Medical Cloud Dictionary with PBL.
  • To compare the effectiveness of this integrated model against traditional PBL in improving teaching effectiveness, student learning outcomes, and reducing teaching pressure.

Main Methods:

  • A randomized controlled trial with 100 student volunteers, divided into an experimental group (PBL + Medical Cloud Dictionary) and a control group (traditional PBL).
  • Both groups studied seven respiratory disease modules over four months.
  • Student performance was assessed via theoretical exams, case analyses, and clinical reports, with statistical comparisons using Mann-Whitney U-test and chi-square tests.

Main Results:

  • The experimental group showed significantly higher overall scores (p < 0.001).
  • The experimental group achieved a 100% pass rate and a 22.9% excellence rate, compared to 98.6% and 2.9% in the control group, respectively (p < 0.05).
  • Qualitative feedback indicated improved learning efficiency, independent learning, and reduced teaching pressure, with a desire to continue the integrated model.

Conclusions:

  • Integrating a Medical Cloud Dictionary with PBL enhances academic engagement and mastery of medical knowledge and skills.
  • The model improves teaching quality, strengthens teacher-student relationships, and fosters independent learning.
  • This integrated approach offers a more effective and higher-quality medical education model for both students and teachers.
