    Background:

    • Metoclopramide is a prokinetic agent used to treat gastrointestinal motility disorders.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the impact of metoclopramide on gastric emptying, small intestinal transit, and carbohydrate absorption in healthy volunteers.
    • To explore the potential mechanisms by which metoclopramide influences nutrient assimilation.

    Main Methods:

    • A radiolabelled liquid starch meal was administered orally to five healthy male volunteers.
    • Metoclopramide (20 mg) was administered, and gastric emptying, ileal transit time, ileal flow rates, and carbohydrate absorption were measured using a four-lumen intestinal tube.

    • Metoclopramide significantly decreased the time for 50% and 80% of the meal to reach the ileum.
