A Rare Injury to the Ascending Aorta After Blunt Trauma

Abstract:
Blunt aortic injuries are life-threatening and overwhelmingly occur in the proximal descending aorta. On the contrary, injury to the ascending aorta after blunt trauma is rare. We report a case of a circumferential ascending aortic injury in a previously healthy 57-year-old man involved in a motor vehicle collision. The diagnosis and successful operative repair of this uncommon injury are discussed.
