Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To characterize emergency department (ED) visits within 90 days after pediatric supracondylar humerus fracture diagnosis and management.
  • To identify predictive factors associated with these subsequent ED visits.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of a large administrative database (2010-2021) of pediatric patients (<13 years) with supracondylar humerus fractures.
  • Stratification of patients based on ED visits within 90 days post-injury/surgery.
  • Multivariate logistic regression to identify predictors of ED utilization.

  • 11.1% of 92,994 pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures resulted in at least one ED visit within 90 days.
