Background:

APRNs are vital for managing patients with advanced illness due to a shortage of palliative care specialists.
Current graduate education for specialty palliative APRNs lacks standardization in structure and content.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop consensus recommendations for standardizing specialty palliative APRN graduate education.
To align curriculum with national palliative APRN competencies and the AACN Essentials.

Main Methods:

A workgroup of expert palliative APRNs and graduate faculty convened.
Focused discussions and a literature review were conducted.
Recommendations were developed based on national competencies and AACN Essentials.

Main Results:

Consensus recommendations were established for core concepts and associated skills.
Guidance on andragogical approaches and evaluation methods was provided.
References for curricular development were identified.

Conclusions:

These recommendations represent a significant step towards standardizing quality palliative APRN education.
A foundation for a comprehensive palliative APRN curriculum has been established.
