Pulmonary Tuberculosis IV01:26

Pulmonary Tuberculosis IV

133
Tuberculosis, more commonly referred to as TB, is an infectious disease stemming from Mycobacterium tuberculosis. While it primarily impacts the lungs, TB can also affect other body areas. Given its severity and global impact, timely and accurate diagnosis is crucial for controlling its spread and improving patient outcomes.
Several diagnostic approaches are used to detect TB. The conventional method is the Tuberculin Skin Test (TST), also known as the Mantoux test. However, this method has...

Summary

Monkeypox oral lesions appear in 70% of patients as the first sign, presenting as contagious macules, papules, vesicles, or blisters. These early oral manifestations aid in diagnosing monkeypox and differentiating it from other conditions.

Area of Science:

  • Infectious Diseases
  • Dermatology
  • Virology

Background:

  • Monkeypox virus (MPXV) infection presents with characteristic skin lesions.
  • Oral mucosa involvement is a frequent early manifestation of monkeypox.
  • Distinguishing monkeypox from other conditions with similar oral lesions is clinically important.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To highlight the significance of oral lesions as an early clinical sign of monkeypox.
  • To describe the clinical presentation of oral monkeypox lesions.
  • To emphasize the role of oral manifestations in the differential diagnosis of infectious diseases.

Main Methods:

  • Review of clinical cases and literature on monkeypox manifestations.
  • Analysis of the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of oral lesions.
  • Comparison of oral lesions with those of herpes simplex, herpes zoster, and syphilis.

Main Results:

  • Oral lesions affect approximately 70% of monkeypox patients.
  • Lesions manifest as macules, papules, vesicles, or blisters, often appearing before lesions elsewhere.
  • Clinical presentation can mimic recurrent herpes simplex, herpes zoster, and secondary syphilis.

Conclusions:

  • Oral mucosal lesions are a key early indicator of monkeypox infection.
  • Recognition of these lesions is crucial for timely diagnosis and management.
  • Differential diagnosis should include monkeypox when encountering such oral lesions.
