Summary

Background:

Sciatic nerve injury (SNI) significantly impacts quality of life due to pain and motor dysfunction.
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy gaining recognition for its potential in nerve injury management.
Understanding research trends in acupuncture for SNI is crucial for advancing treatment strategies.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze the research status, hotspots, and development trends of acupuncture for sciatic nerve injury (SNI) over the past decade.
To identify key institutions, influential researchers, and prevalent acupuncture points in SNI research.
To predict future research directions and potential breakthroughs in acupuncture-based SNI treatment.

Main Methods:

Bibliometric analysis and scientific knowledge mapping were employed.
Literature search conducted across CNKI, Wanfang, Weipu (VIP), and Web of Science (WOS) databases.
CiteSpace and VOSviewer software used for keyword co-occurrence, collaborative network, and timeline analysis.

Main Results:

A total of 985 articles were analyzed (907 from Chinese databases, 78 from WOS).
Leading institutions and influential researchers were identified.
Commonly used acupuncture points (Huanjiu, Huizhong) and integrated therapies (drug, physical, rehabilitation) were highlighted.
Electroacupuncture and neuropathic pain emerged as cutting-edge topics.
Therapeutic mechanisms involve promoting nerve regeneration via cytokine modulation.

Conclusions:

Acupuncture demonstrates potential for promoting nerve regeneration and functional recovery in SNI.
Integrated therapeutic strategies enhance treatment efficacy.
Future research should focus on acupuncture point mechanisms and clinical validation of integrative approaches.
