Abstract:
A single molecule sensor for several analytes is indeed desired by the scientists around the world due to obvious advantages. In this report we present a new class of Lophine incorporated azo dyes that has capacity of differential colorimetric detection of several metal ions. Interestingly the sensor was found to have pH dependent selective response towards several metals. The effective colorimetric detection was observed under neutral pH for Cu+2, Al+3 and Fe+3 metal ions while under alkaline pH for Cu+2, Zn+2, Ni+2 and Co+2 metal ions. The detailed investigation of synthesis, characterization, spectroscopic analysis and application of the novel colorimetric sensor is presented here in. The sensor is effective under non-aqueous conditions which provides a complementary detection method for metals in non-aqueous environment.
