    Summary

    Flutamide, a non-steroidal antiandrogen, showed limited efficacy in advanced prostate cancer patients previously treated with hormone therapy. Few patients without prior therapy responded, and side effects were common.

    Background:

    • Advanced prostate cancer often requires hormone therapy.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of flutamide in patients with advanced prostate cancer.
    • To assess flutamide's effectiveness in patients with and without prior hormone therapy.

    Main Methods:

    • A cohort of 17 patients with advanced prostate cancer was treated with flutamide.
    • Patients were stratified based on prior response to conventional hormone therapy.
    • Treatment outcomes and side effects were monitored.

    • Flutamide demonstrated poor efficacy in patients resistant to prior hormone therapy, with 12 of 14 deceased within 12 months.
