Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the radiological findings of neurological disorders in obstetric patients.
  • To analyze the associated obstetric and fetal outcomes.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study was conducted at Lady Ready Hospital from June 2022 to March 2023.
  • Sixty-two obstetric patients with neurological symptoms were included, with clinical records reviewed.
  • Brain MRI/MRV were performed, and patients were followed until delivery.

Main Results:

  • Seizures (74.2%) and hemiparesis (8.1%) were common symptoms. Pregnancy-induced hypertension was noted in 62.3%.
  • MRI revealed Dural Sinus Thrombosis (DST) in 42.9%, Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES) in 17.9%, infarcts in 14.3%, and hemorrhage in 7.1%.
  • Normal live births occurred in 69%, but stillbirth (25.9%) and preterm birth (3.2%) were significant. Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission was required for 32.8%.

Conclusions:

  • Pregnancy-related neurological issues, even subtle ones like headaches, warrant careful evaluation for conditions such as PRES or DST.
  • Timely radiological assessment is vital for managing these complex obstetric cases and ensuring better maternal and fetal health.
