    Summary

This case study describes a rare instance of a benign intracranial meningioma that appeared to metastasize to the lung. The pulmonary tumor was also benign and the patient remained disease-free for 28 months.

    Area of Science:

    • Neurosurgery
    • Oncology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • Intracranial meningiomas are typically benign tumors arising from the meninges.
    • Metastasis is rare in histologically benign meningiomas.

    Observation:

    • A patient presented with both an intracranial meningioma and a pulmonary tumor.
    • Fine-needle aspiration cytology suggested metastatic meningioma in the lung.

    Findings:

    • Surgical resection revealed the pulmonary tumor to be histologically benign.
    • The patient experienced no recurrence or disease progression for 28 months post-resection.

    Implications:

    • This case adds to the limited literature on benign metastasizing meningiomas.
    • Highlights the importance of considering unusual metastatic patterns even with histologically benign primary tumors.
