Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is common in severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients and significantly increases the risk of severe cognitive disability. Preventing VAP may reduce long-term cognitive impairment in TBI survivors.

- VAP was identified as an independent risk factor for severe cognitive disability (aOR: 4.2, 95% CI: 2.2-7.8).

- VAP is a significant risk factor associated with severe cognitive disability in this population.
