[Sympathetico-adrenal system function in myoma and cancer of the corpus uteri]
Abstract:
The study was concerned with the functional status of sympatho-adrenal system in cases of myoma and cancer of the uterine body and in healthy subjects. Cancer patients showed a paradoxical reaction to the subcutaneous injection of adrenaline: a 15 mm Hg drop in blood pressure matched by a rise in healthy subjects. Hyperglycemic coefficient in standard glucose load test was higher in cancer patients--by 32 and 44% at minutes 60 and 90, respectively, as compared with normals. No pronounced disturbances in sympatho-adrenal system functioning were registered in myoma patients.

Collateral Ganglia
Sympathetic preganglionic axons reach the collateral ganglia along the route of splanchnic nerves. These nerves bypass the sympathetic trunk and communicate with sympathetic postganglionic neurons housed in the prevertebral ganglia. These ganglia supply the organs of the abdominopelvic cavity.

Anatomy of the Adrenal Glands
These glands possess a distinctive yellow tinge due to the stored cholesterol and fatty acids required for hormone synthesis. They are encased in a fibrous capsule and cushioned by fat.

Hormones of the Adrenal Glands
The adrenal cortex, a powerhouse of hormone synthesis, generates over two dozen corticosteroid hormones. The zona glomerulosa produces mineralocorticoids, exemplified by aldosterone, influencing the electrolyte composition of body fluids. The synthesis of glucocorticoids such as cortisol and corticosterone...
