[A Case of Rectovaginal Fistula after Rectal Cancer Surgery That Was Conservatively Cured by Hormone Therapy]

A 76-year-old woman underwent laparoscopic low anterior resection for rectal cancer. On postoperative day 13, she was found to have a rectovaginal fistula. She underwent ileostomy, but the fistula was still present 2 months later. Oral administration of estriol tablets was started as hormone therapy, and the fistula was closed 1.5 months later. This case illustrates that hormone therapy with estriol may be a treatment option for rectovaginal fistulas after rectal surgery.
