Background:
Breast cancer therapy based on the pathogenic variants of BRCA is entering a new era with the expanded use of olaparib in adjuvant chemotherapy. This study examined the timing of olaparib administration in patients with BRCA pathogenic sequence variant (PSV).
Subject And Methods:
BRCA genetic testing was performed in 281 patients at our facility between April 2019 and October 2023. These patients were retrospectively reviewed.
Result:
Seventeen(6.0%)of 281 patients were diagnosed with BRCA-PSV(+). Six patients had Stage Ⅰ disease, 5 had Stage Ⅱ disease, 2 had Stage Ⅲ disease, and 4 had Stage Ⅳ disease. One patient had a high risk of recurrence and the remaining 7 patients had experienced recurrence prior to olaparib administration.
Conclusion:
As the indications expand, the number of patients who are administered olaparib is expected to increase. Therefore, the appropriate protocols for the detection of BRCA-PSVs must be followed.

Cancer Therapies
However, cancer treatments can pose several challenges, as therapies used to kill cancer cells are generally also toxic to normal cells.
