[Effect of dopamine and its combination with furosemide on urination in the rat]

Subcutaneous injection of dopamine (0.2-0.5 mg/kg) increased the daily diuresis and excretion of sodium, potassium and creatinine. The raising of the dose to 1 mg/kg did not alter renal function, but the initial effect recurred when the alpha-adrenolytic phentolamine was administered simultaneously. Dopamine (0.4-0.5 mg/kg) potentiated the natriuretic action of furosemide apparently at the expense of more pronounced inhibition of tubular reabsorption of sodium.
