Summary

Continuing antiplatelet therapy during incisionless thread carpal tunnel release (TCTR) appears safe. This study found no significant bleeding risks when patients maintained their anticoagulation or antiplatelet medication during the procedure.

Background:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most prevalent peripheral nerve entrapment.
  • Thread carpal tunnel release (TCTR) offers an incisionless, ultrasound-guided method for transverse carpal ligament division.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the bleeding risks associated with continuing anticoagulation or antiplatelet therapy during TCTR.
  • To assess the safety of TCTR in patients on antithrombotic medications.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective case series of 114 adult patients undergoing 164 TCTR procedures (2018-2023).
  • Patients were on antiplatelet or anticoagulation medication.
  • Chart review and follow-up questionnaires identified adverse events related to medication management during TCTR.
