A rare intracranial complication of cholesterol granuloma

A large extradural collection of fluid was encountered in a patient with mastoid cholesterol granuloma. She gave no previous history of ear disease and had no aural symptoms. She presented merely with headache. Some authors have suggested non-surgical intervention (Farrior and Kampsen, 1981) or perhaps just an insertion of a ventilating tube (Burton and Wright, 1960). Our experience would suggest that active intervention and radical surgery are indicated to halt serious complications of cholesterol granuloma.
