Summary

Colonic transit scintigraphy (CS) and colonic manometry (CM) in children with constipation showed a correlation between rectosigmoid contractile patterns and transit time. The rectosigmoid may act as a gatekeeper for colonic luminal transit.

Conclusions:

  • Scintigraphic GC at 6 hours significantly correlates with rectosigmoid CM parameters.
  • The rectosigmoid colon's contractile function may play a key role in regulating colonic luminal transit.
  • These findings suggest the rectosigmoid acts as a gatekeeper for colonic transit in children.
