Nondisjunction is the failure of homologous chromosomes or sister chromatids to separate correctly and move to the opposite poles of the cells. Summary

This study found no causal link between abortion and endometriosis (EMS). Mendelian randomization analysis confirmed that neither abortion nor EMS significantly impacts the risk of the other condition.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the potential causal relationship between abortion and the development of endometriosis (EMS).

Main Methods:

  • A Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed using genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics from the FinnGen database and UK Biobank.
  • Primary analysis employed the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method, supported by weighted median, weighted mode, and MR-Egger analyses.
  • Sensitivity analyses included Cochran's Q, MR-PRESSO, and Leave-One-Out (LOO) tests to assess heterogeneity and pleiotropy.
