Bilateral spontaneous retinal dialysis in multiple sclerosis related intermediate uveitis: Unusual case report

Purpose:
To report a case of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) caused by spontaneous retinal dialysis in intermediate uveitis due to multiple sclerosis (MS).
Observations:
A 29-year-old Middle Eastern female, was diagnosed with MS following an episode of bilateral intermediate uveitis. Later, she presented with sequential RRD in both eyes. The patient underwent a 25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy. Intraoperatively, retinal dialysis was noted due to traction at the vitreous base. Peripheral retinal thinning due to ischemia was also noted. Postoperatively, she recovered her visual acuity in both eyes to 6/6.
Conclusions And Importance:
We describe a case of bilateral RRD caused by spontaneous retinal dialysis in intermediate uveitis secondary to MS. Retinal detachment was managed by conventional vitrectomy and tamponading agent. We suggest looking for traction at the vitreous base in cases of intermediate uveitis secondary to MS.
