Head Shaking Test and Its Validity Considering from the Point of View of Muscle Activities

Causes of falls in home is still uncertain, but losing balance caused by several turns in home might be one of potentially candidates of the causes. We've proposed a screening test named head shaking test to evaluate how much people endure to the disturbances caused by the turns in home. To examine the validity of this test, we put EMGs on one's Tibialis Anterior (TA) and Gastrocnemius (GAS), and analyzed integrated EMG and mean amplitude of EMG before/after shaking heads on 1 participant. It is clarified that muscles (especially in the right side) showed larger activity after the head shaking, and thus, the participant would respond to the disturbances of the test and try not to lose balance as demonstrating larger muscle activity.
