Abstract:
The chemical investigations of the methanolic root, stem bark, leaf, and fruit extracts of Ficus vogeliana Miq (Moraceae) led to the isolation of nineteen different compounds including one new triglyceride derivative named vogelianor (1), two compounds (2 and 4) obtained for the first time from a natural source, as well as sixteen known compounds (3, 5 - 19). The structures of all the isolates were established by extensive spectroscopic and spectrometric analyses (1D and 2D NMR, ESI-MS) and by comparison with previously reported data. Compound 7 showed moderate activity against E. coli with a MIC value of 31.25 µg/mL, whilst compound 13 exhibited moderate activity against S. typhimurium with MIC value of 31.25 µg/mL. The leaf, root, and stem bark extracts displayed significant potency against E. coli with MIC values of 62.5 μg/mL, 31.25 µg/mL, and 62.5 μg/mL, respectively. Finally, the chemophenetic significance of the isolated compounds is discussed.
