Background:

Alabama faces a critical shortage of dentists in rural areas.
Educational institutions and state agencies have partnered to address this issue.

Purpose of the Study:

To create and implement coordinated initiatives aimed at increasing Alabama's rural dental workforce.
To address the worsening rural dentist crisis through a multifaceted partnership.

Main Methods:

A long-term program with three components: a high school scholar program, a dental student pathway program, and financial support/service awards.
The Rural Dental Health Scholar program targets rising high school seniors.
The Rural Dental Scholar (RDS) pathway program includes a pre-matriculation master's curriculum for dental students.
