Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between the WW physical activity pattern and regularly distributed physical activity with mortality risk.
  • To compare the mortality benefits of different physical activity distribution patterns.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort study of 95,468 UK Biobank participants (2013-2015) analyzed accelerometer-derived physical activity.
  • Participants were categorized as inactive, active WW (≥150 min MVPA/week, ≥50% in 1-2 days), or active regular (≥150 min MVPA/week, not WW).
  • Cox regression models assessed associations with all-cause and cause-specific mortality, considering sedentary time and light physical activity levels.

Main Results:

  • Over a median of 7.92 years, 3539 deaths occurred.

  • The benefits of physical activity for reducing mortality risk are evident regardless of age and are pronounced in individuals with higher sedentary behavior.
