[Carotid false aneurysm : New case revealing a Behçet's disease]
1Hôpital militaire de Smara, faculté de médecine et de pharmacie de Rabat, Maroc.
Behçet's disease can cause serious arterial aneurysms. This case report details a young male with a false carotid artery aneurysm due to Behçet's disease, successfully treated with surgical repair.
Area of Science:
- Vascular Surgery
- Rheumatology
- Internal Medicine
Background:
- Arterial aneurysms are a serious complication of Behçet's disease.
- Literature characterizing arterial aneurysms in Behçet's disease is limited.
- Behçet's disease is a multisystem inflammatory disorder.
Purpose of the Study:
- To report a case of a false aneurysm of the left carotid bulb in a young male.
- To highlight the presentation and management of arterial localization in Behçet's disease.
- To contribute to the scarce literature on arterial aneurysms in Behçet's disease.
Main Methods:
- Case report of a 19-year-old male patient.
- Surgical excision of a false aneurysm.
- Repair of the carotid bulb using a polytetrafluoroethylene prosthesis.
Main Results:
- A false aneurysm of the left carotid bulb was identified.
- Etiological investigation confirmed Behçet's disease as the cause.
- Successful surgical management of the arterial lesion was achieved.
Conclusions:
- Behçet's disease can manifest with significant arterial complications like false aneurysms.
- Early diagnosis and surgical intervention are crucial for managing arterial lesions in Behçet's disease.
- This case underscores the importance of considering Behçet's disease in young patients presenting with arterial aneurysms.
