The whole plant of Solanum Septemlobum Thunb., called Shu Yangquan in traditional Chinese medicine, has the traditional function of clearing away heat and toxic material. Chemical investigation on the ethanol extract of S. Septemlobum afforded a new lignanamide (1) and a known compound caffeic acid ethyl ester (2). Compound 1 displayed moderate antineuroinflammatory effects (IC50 values of 25.3 μM) compared with minocycline (IC50 value of 12.1 μM) against NO production on LPS-treated BV2 cells.
