Attitudes Towards COVID-19 Vaccination and Complementary Treatment Methods Among Adults

This study aimed to examine the attitudes of adults toward COVID-19 vaccination and their use of complementary treatment methods.

This study was cross-sectional and descriptive.

This study was conducted on 276 participants in Turkey between 15 May and 30 July 2021.

The study sample consisted of individuals over 18 years of age who had volunteered to participate in the study, had no cognitive difficulties, and were using social media (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp).

A Personal Information Form, Attitudes Towards the COVID-19 Vaccine (ATV-COVID19), and the Attitude Towards Using Complementary Treatments Scale were used to collect data. The relationship between scale scores was measured by correlation analysis.

The mean scores of the individuals participating in the research on the subdimensions of the Attitudes Towards the COVID-19 Vaccine (ATV-COVID19) were as follows: Positive Attitude 3.34 ± 1.31 (Min.1 - Max.5), Negative Attitude 3.64 ± 0.84 (Min.1 - Max.5), and their mean score on the Attitude Towards Using Complementary Treatments Scale was found to be 15.89 ± 6.31 (Min.3 - Max.36). A significant negative correlation was found between the mean score on the ATV-COVID-19 subdimension of Negative Attitude and the mean score on the Attitude Towards Using Complementary Treatments Scale (r = -0.268, P = .000).

The results of our study showed that the participants' attitudes toward vaccination and the use of complementary treatments were moderately positive. It was found that as positive attitudes to vaccination increase, positive attitudes to complementary treatment methods decrease.
