Summary

Plastic and reconstructive surgery, including reduction mammaplasty, significantly improves quality of life (QoL) and is cost-effective. Expanding essential surgical care to include reduction mammaplasty can benefit patients in developing countries.

Global surgery aims for equitable and improved surgical services, yet surgical care's role in disease burden was underestimated due to complexity and cost.
A functional health system requires high-quality, accessible, and timely surgical care.

Purpose of the Study:

To review the role of plastic and reconstructive surgery in global surgery programs.
To explore the impact of reduction mammaplasty on quality of life (QoL).
To define emergency and essential surgical care within global surgery contexts.

Main Methods:

Literature review on plastic surgery in global programs, reduction mammaplasty, and QoL.
Exploration of definitions for emergency and essential surgical care.
Identification of reduction mammaplasty as the most researched aesthetic procedure for QoL.
