Novel supramolecular polymers exhibit intrinsic stimuli-responsiveness. These main-chain supramolecular polymers (MCSPs) can be reversibly controlled by altering boron and nitrogen chemical states.
Area of Science:
- Materials Science
- Polymer Chemistry
- Supramolecular Chemistry
Background:
- Supramolecular polymers offer tunable properties through non-covalent interactions.
- Developing polymers with intrinsic stimuli-responsiveness is crucial for advanced materials.
Purpose of the Study:
- To synthesize novel main-chain supramolecular polymers (MCSPs) with inherent responsiveness to external stimuli.
- To utilize dative B ← N bonds for constructing stimuli-responsive polymer backbones.
Main Methods:
- Synthesis of MCSPs incorporating dative B ← N bonds.
- Employing chemical modifications (fluoridation/defluoridation of boron, protonation/deprotonation of nitrogen) to trigger responses.
Main Results:
- Successfully developed MCSPs exhibiting reversible responses.
- Demonstrated control over polymer properties through targeted chemical alterations of boron and nitrogen centers.
Conclusions:
- The developed MCSPs possess intrinsic stimuli-responsiveness based on dative B ← N bonds.
- This approach enables the creation of adaptable materials with tunable properties for various applications.
