Abstract:
Group 10 metal complexes of figure-of-eight-shaped hexaphyrin(2.1.2.1.2.1) with embedded benzene were revealed. Mono-Ni(II) 1Ni and bis-Pd(II) 2Pd complexes were obtained. Inspection of the crystal structure of 2Pd showed two Pd(II) ions coordinated with six N atoms and two Pd(II) ions bridged by a Cl atom accompanied by rotation of one pyrrolic unit. The structures and 1O2 generation studies of 1Ni and 2Pd under yellow laser beam irradiation indicated that the molecular structural and physicochemical properties of hexaphyrin(2.1.2.1.2.1) can be regulated and controlled by inserted metal ions.

Metal-Ligand Bonds
In these complexes, transition metals form coordinate covalent bonds, a kind of Lewis acid-base interaction in which both of the electrons in the bond are contributed by a donor (Lewis base) to an electron acceptor (Lewis acid). The Lewis acid in...

Colors and Magnetism
When atoms or molecules absorb light at the proper frequency, their electrons are excited to higher-energy orbitals. For many main group atoms and molecules, the absorbed photons are in the ultraviolet range of the electromagnetic spectrum, which cannot be detected by the human eye. For coordination compounds, the energy difference between the d orbitals often allows photons in the visible range to be absorbed and emitted, which is seen as colors by the human...
