The effect of dynamic neuromuscular stabilization training in dysfunctional voiding: A randomized clinical trial

Objective:
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) training may provide positive effects in adults with Dysfunctional Voiding (DV), considering the regulating effects on intra-abdominal pressure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of DNS on uroflowmetry parameters, severity of symptoms and quality of life (QoL).
Study Design:
Thirty-four adults who were diagnosed with DV were randomized into Group 1: conservative treatment (n = 17) or Group 2: conservative treatment combined with DNS training (n = 17). Both groups received treatment for six weeks. Uroflowmetry parameters, severity of symptoms with "Dysfunctional Voiding and Incontinence Scoring System (DVISS)" and QoL with "The Short-Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36)" were evaluated baseline and after intervention.
Results:
While improvement was achieved in some uroflowmetry parameters, DVISS score and many SF-36 subscale scores in both groups (p < 0.05), there was statistically difference in corrected maximum flow rate (cQmax) value from uroflowmetry parameters between groups at week 6 in favor of Group 2 (p = 0.04).
Conclusion:
In summary, the results of this randomized clinical trial considered that conservative treatment combined with DNS training could be used as clinically a different treatment approach.
