Learning to recognize unfamiliar faces from fine-phonetic detail in visual speech

Humans can recognize unfamiliar talkers using only visual speech cues from dynamic facial movements. This study shows that fine-grained phonetic details in visual speech alone enable rapid talker identification and generalization across words.
