Weighted Values for Direct and Maternal Genetic Effects to Maximize the Accuracy of Index Selection
1Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan.
Abstract:
A method was devised to obtain weighted values for the additive direct and maternal genetic effects of a single trait, estimated using a selection index to maximize the accuracy of selection. A method maximizing the square of the selection accuracy was used. This method should facilitate optimal genetic evaluation when the economic weights of direct and maternal genetic effects are unknown or difficult to establish.
