The complex interaction between oestrogen receptor genes, oestradiol, and perinatal mood

Genetic variations in the oestrogen receptor-alpha (ER-α) gene are linked to increased susceptibility to perinatal mood disturbances. These ER-α gene variations influence mood independently of oestradiol levels.
