    Area of Science:

    • Gastroenterology
    • Minimally Invasive Procedures
    • Biliary System Interventions

    Background:

    • Gallbladder stones (cholelithiasis) pose a significant health burden, often necessitating surgical intervention.
    • Surgical cholecystectomy carries risks, particularly for high-risk patient populations.
    • Existing nonsurgical options may have limitations in efficacy or applicability.

    Observation:

    • A two-part nonsurgical approach was developed for gallbladder stone removal.
    • Part one involves ultrasonically guided percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage.
    • Part two utilizes choledochofiberscopy for gallbladder stone extraction.

    Findings:

    • The combined procedure offers a safe and effective alternative to surgery.
    • It is less stressful and easier to perform than traditional surgical methods.

    Related Experiment Videos

  • Successful gallbladder stone removal was achieved without major complications.
  • Implications:

    • This technique provides a viable treatment option for patients with gallstones who are poor surgical candidates.
    • It expands therapeutic possibilities for elderly and extremely ill individuals.
    • The method may reduce healthcare costs and patient recovery times compared to surgery.
