    Summary

    Ionized calcium levels remained stable during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in dogs, indicating hypocalcemia is not a common issue. Calcium administration did not improve outcomes and sometimes led to dangerously high levels.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate ionized calcium levels in dogs during mechanical external CPR.
    • To determine if hypocalcemia occurs during CPR and affects resuscitation outcomes.

    • 15 adult mongrel dogs underwent induced ventricular fibrillation and CPR.
