Abstract:
Dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON) is the most dreaded manifestation of thyroid eye disease. DON warrants urgent intervention as it is a sight-threatening condition. The mechanism of DON in thyroid eye disease is attributed to direct mechanical compression of the optic nerve by oedematous extraocular muscles and intraorbital fat leading to deceleration of axonal flow and resultant ischaemia. Our case presents the development of central serous chorioretinopathy as a complication of intravenous steroid therapy which was given to him for the treatment of DON. Appropriate changes in treatment need to be made once the diagnosis is confirmed.
