Ultrasound Diagnosis of Ovarian Hernia in a Premature First-Born Twin: A Case Report
1Department of Medical Ultrasound, The First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University & Shandong Provincial Qianfoshan Hospital, Shandong Medicine and Health Key Laboratory of Abdominal Medical Imaging, Jinan, China.
Abstract:
Ovarian hernia is a special type of inguinal hernia, typically due to incomplete closure of the Nuck canal. In premature infants, the incidence of inguinal hernia increases with decreasing gestational age. This article reports a case of ovarian hernia in a 2-month-old female infant born prematurely, the first-born twin, diagnosed by ultrasound showing cystic echoes and blood flow signals within a lump in the right inguinal area. Ultrasonography should be used as the preferential method for the evaluation of ovarian hernia in infants.
