Insights
Calcium deposits in the heart were examined in patients with chronic kidney disease. These calcifications, affecting the left ventricle, showed characteristics of both dystrophic and metastatic types.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Nephrology
- Radiology
Background:
- Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with various cardiovascular complications.
- Uremia, a key feature of CKD, can lead to systemic metabolic disturbances.
- Cardiac calcification is an increasingly recognized complication in CKD patients.
Abstract:
The distribution of calcium deposits in the heart of a patient with chronic uremia was studied by means of x-ray examination [mammography]. The calcification shares features of both dystrophic and metastatic type. It affects predominantly the left ventricular myocardium.
