Summary

Body composition measurements for individual limbs using a bioimpedance analyzer are highly reliable for muscle mass and water content. However, trunk phase angle measurements showed lower reliability, requiring further investigation.

  • Fifty-five healthy Japanese university students (28 males, 27 females) participated.
  • Two body composition measurements were performed using an InBody S10 bioimpedance analyzer.

  • MDC values indicated that greater changes were needed to detect differences in trunk phase angle compared to limb sites.

Conclusions:

  • Limb-specific body composition measurements, particularly for muscle mass and water content, are highly reliable.
  • The lower reliability of trunk phase angle suggests potential confounding factors influencing these measurements.
  • Further research is needed to understand and improve the accuracy of trunk-specific BIA assessments.
