Abstract:
Our study follows the history of the species name tyrtaeum, from the scanty original description as Enterion tyrtaeum by Savigny, 1826 through the loss of type specimen, additional description by Ribaucourt, confusion in the later literature, suggested synonymy with O. lacteum and different opinions of the different authors. Our molecular phylogenetic study within the genus Octolasion reflects the inconsistency in the name usage and shows that O. lacteum and O. tyrtaeum can't be separated genetically. As a solution of the problem, the name E. tyrtaeum is suggested to be treated as a Lumbricus species incertae sedis.
