Abstract:
The influence of La promoter on the catalytic performance of Rh nanoparticles supported on TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) in the hydroformylation of vinyl acetate is investigated. The catalysts are characterized using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared, and H2/CO temperature-programmed desorption. The results indicate that an effect attributes to the formation of LaOx-Rh active sites during the catalytic reaction. The optimized Rh0.25-La/TNTs catalyst (0.14 wt% Rh, 0.29 wt% La) achieves a high vinyl acetate conversion of 89%, an aldehyde selectivity of 66%, and a remarkable turnover frequency of 5796 h-1.

Alkynes to Aldehydes and Ketones: Hydroboration-Oxidation
One of the convenient methods for the preparation of aldehydes and ketones is via hydration of alkynes. Hydroboration-oxidation of alkynes is an indirect hydration reaction in which an alkyne is treated with borane followed by oxidation with alkaline peroxide to form an enol that rapidly converts into an aldehyde or a ketone. Terminal alkynes form aldehydes, whereas internal alkynes give ketones as the final product.
Alcohols from Carbonyl Compounds: Reduction
Catalytic hydrogenation is similar to the reduction of an alkene or alkyne by adding H2 across the pi bond in the presence of transition metal catalysts like Raney Ni, Pd–C, Pt, or Ru. Aldehydes and ketones can be reduced by this method, often under mild to moderate heat...
