They filter the blood several times a day to remove toxins and rebalance water and electrolytes of the circulatory system via the renal veins. The kidneys receive blood directly from the heart via the renal arteries. These arteries enter the kidney at the hilum, the concave surface of the bean, where they branch and divide into smaller vessels and capillaries.

  • Among 109 recipients with dialysis data, 35.8% had dialysis duration exceeding one year.

Conclusions:

  • Significant socioeconomic disparities exist in preemptive kidney transplantation rates among children.
  • The HOUSES index effectively identified lower SES as a barrier to preemptive transplantation in pediatric kidney transplant recipients.
  • Addressing socioeconomic factors is crucial to improve equitable access to preemptive kidney transplantation for children.
