Abstract:
Molecular cages are distinguished supramolecular structures with stable cavities, enabling applications in molecular recognition, catalysis, and drug delivery. While the synthesis of purely organic cages is less common and often hindered by entropy-related challenges in irreversible reactions. In this study, we present a novel single-precursor strategy featuring dual aldehyde and hydrazine units to facilitate ring closure via hydrazone chemistry. This approach yielded a double-layered aromatic arylhydrazone macrocycle with 88% yield. Furthermore, this macrocycle with electron-rich properties showed strong binding to the electron-donor fullerene guest C60 and C70.

Preparation of Amides
The DCC-promoted synthesis of amides begins with the protonation of DCC by carboxylic acid. The protonation makes it a better acceptor. Next, the addition of carboxylate to the protonated carbodiimide gives a reactive acylating agent.
Subsequently, the amine acts as a nucleophile that attacks the acylating agent to form a tetrahedral intermediate. In the...
Preparation of 1° Amines: Azide Synthesis
Azide ions act as good nucleophiles and react with unhindered alkyl halides to form alkyl azides. Alkyl azides do not participate in further nucleophilic substitution reactions, thereby eliminating the chances of polyalkylated products. Alkyl azides are reduced by hydride-based reducing agents, like lithium aluminum...

Alkynes to Aldehydes and Ketones: Acid-Catalyzed Hydration
Analogous to alkenes, alkynes also undergo acid-catalyzed hydration. While the addition of water to an alkene gives an alcohol, hydration of alkynes produces different products such as aldehydes and ketones.
