Community Based Intervention
26
Community-based interventions in mental health represent a paradigm shift from institution-centered care to treatments embedded within the fabric of local communities. By prioritizing inclusion and leveraging existing societal structures, this approach fosters a supportive environment conducive to addressing mental health challenges while promoting individual dignity and agency.

Relationship Formation
39.5K
What do you think is the single most influential factor in determining with whom you become friends and whom you form romantic relationships? You might be surprised to learn that the answer is simple: the people with whom you have the most contact. This most important factor is proximity. You are more likely to be friends with people you have regular contact with. For example, there are decades of research that shows that you are more likely to become friends with people who live in your dorm,...

Interpersonal Psychotherapy
16
Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) is a structured, time-limited therapeutic approach initially developed to treat depression. It integrates key concepts from psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral therapies, making it a uniquely eclectic framework. The therapy is rooted in the interpersonal theories of Adolph Meyer and Harry Stack Sullivan, as well as John Bowlby's attachment theory, and focuses on the interplay between interpersonal relationships and emotional well-being.

Moment of a Couple: Problem Solving
834
The moment of couple is an essential concept in physics and engineering, used to calculate the rotational force, or torque, that is created when a couple —two equal and opposite forces—acts on an object.
The moment of a couple is found by multiplying the magnitude of one of the forces by the perpendicular distance between the line of action of the two forces. This creates a twisting force, which can be used to rotate an object. The moment of a couple is used to solve problems...

Summary
Developing interventions for violence against women and girls in urban areas is challenging. A co-development process with young women created Zethembe Couples Care, focusing on communication and problem-solving skills.
Area of Science:
- Public Health
- Community Psychology
- Gender Studies
Background:
- Interventions for violence against women and girls (VAWG) in urban informal settlements are scarce.
- Young women's perspectives are crucial for effective intervention design.
Purpose of the Study:
- To co-develop an intervention addressing VAWG in an urban informal settlement.
- To explore the co-development process using participatory methods with young women.
Main Methods:
- Employed the 6 Steps in Quality Intervention Development (6SQuID) approach.
- Utilized participatory methods, engaging young women (18-25 years) and NGO partners.
- Co-created and pre-tested the Zethembe Couples Care intervention.
Main Results:
- The co-development process prioritized building trust and empowering young women's critical reflection.
- The resulting Zethembe Couples Care intervention focuses on couple communication and problem-solving.
- Young women's input shaped the intervention, though addressing structural drivers of violence was limited.
Conclusions:
- Co-development is time-intensive but essential for culturally relevant interventions.
- The Zethembe Couples Care intervention requires further piloting and formal evaluation.
- Empowering young women can lead to interventions that address immediate relational dynamics but may need support for broader structural change.
