Background:

Pressure injuries are a significant concern in surgical patients, necessitating effective risk assessment tools.
Existing scales may not fully capture the unique risks associated with surgical procedures.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop and validate the Surgery-Related Pressure Injury Risk Assessment Scale (SURPIRAS).
To establish SURPIRAS as a reliable tool for identifying patients at risk of postoperative pressure injuries.

Main Methods:

A methodological study involving 200 surgical patients.
Data collection using patient forms and validated scales (ELPO, Munro Scale).
Statistical analyses including intraclass correlation coefficient for validity and reliability.

Main Results:

Pressure injuries occurred in 20.5% of patients.
SURPIRAS scores significantly correlated with postoperative pressure injury development.
High correlation found between SURPIRAS and Munro Scale; cut-off score of 27 identified high-risk patients.

Conclusions:

SURPIRAS is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing pressure injury risk in Turkish surgical patients.
This scale offers a novel contribution to the literature for proactive pressure injury prevention.
Early risk assessment using SURPIRAS is crucial for preventing pressure injuries in surgical settings.
