    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the impact of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infusion on neutrophil bactericidal function (NBF) in dogs.
    • To assess the contribution of the spleen to bacterial phagocytosis and clearance during P. aeruginosa bacteremia.

    Main Methods:

    • Dogs received intravenous infusions of P. aeruginosa at different concentrations (10^6 and 10^7 organisms/minute).
    • Neutrophil bactericidal function was assessed.
    • Splenectomies were performed in a subset of dogs prior to P. aeruginosa infusion to evaluate the spleen's role.
